Disease Indicators
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a
serious health condition affecting 26
million Americans and more than 500
million people worldwide. Early detection and
management of CKD can delay the disease’s progression and
reduce adverse outcomes. Untreated, CKD can progress to
kidney failure, but more often results in premature death due
to cardiovascular disease and other complications.
So what can you do?
As a medical professional, you know that diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and a family history of kidney problems are major risk factors for kidney disease. But your patients may not know this. Help them make the connection between CKD and its risk factors, and be sure to test your at-risk patients.
